The consommé spoon is made for the most delicate spoon dishes: clear broths with fine noodles or chopped egg and ham, consommés, veloutés and light creamed soups. If you serve in a cup with a saucer, the spoon rests on the saucer when not in use; if it goes in a deep plate, it is placed on the right, next to the knife. Thanks to its slim profile, it suits a simple, well-kept table with plain tableware, where the cutlery should accompany the plate without competing with it. In a menu of several courses, a single spoon per guest is enough for the soup; the other cutlery is changed with each dish. Count one per person: a pack of 12 covers up to 12 guests, and with fewer guests the rest are kept as spares.
Stainless steel stands up well to daily use, but it is best washed soon: do not leave the spoon soaking with salt residue or bleach, and do not store it damp in the drawer. If you would rather not take chances, wash it by hand in hot water with mild soap and dry it straight away with a cloth so no limescale marks remain. Avoid metal scourers, which scratch the surface. As it is only 2 mm thick, do not use it either to lever things open, crush ice or scrape the bottom of a pot.
Silk is a JAY piece sold in a pack of 12. If you want to combine it with other cutlery for the table, cutlery has more pieces and sets, so you can decide what you are missing and order only that.
