Counter display cabinets and displays

A display cabinet keeps food out of the dust and away from customers' hands while leaving it in full view, which is what really sells across a counter. At Hiperchef you will find acrylic and glass display cabinets, dome covers and domed trays, bread baskets and displays for patisserie and ice cream from Lacor, Ibili, Inoxibar and Silikomart, for bar counters, patisseries, bakeries, buffets and catering operations. These are ambient pieces, with no refrigeration or heating: if you need to hold food at temperature, take a look at the refrigerated and heated display cases.

Counter display cabinets

The Lacor Roll-Top display cabinet measures 53 cm long, 32.5 cm deep and 18 cm high, and the lid folds away on a roll-top mechanism that opens with a single knob: handy when you are serving repeatedly. It is designed to work with GN 1/1 gastronorm containers, so the food never touches the counter surface.

The Lacor display cabinet with upper shelf adds a second display level and comes in three base widths: 50 cm (reference 39450), 75 cm (39445) and 100 cm (39441), all with a 28 cm upper shelf. It is the usual answer when you need to show pastries or tapas on two levels without taking up more counter space. Dimensional data comes from the manufacturer's catalogue and is indicative.

If you are after the most striking piece, the Lacor Neutra glass display cabinet is built entirely in glass on a stainless steel base, with a curved top for a panoramic view, a tempered glass middle shelf and a hinged rear door so you can serve from behind the counter. It measures 55.4 x 37.6 cm with a height of 37 cm and offers 45 litres of capacity; the middle shelf leaves 16 cm of usable height below and 13.5 cm above, with a depth of 30 cm. Four rubber feet stop it sliding across the worktop.

Dome covers, cheese domes and domed trays

For one-off presentations that will not take over the whole counter, the Inoxibar round catering tray with dome cover pairs an 18/10 stainless steel tray with an acrylic lid tall enough to keep cakes from being squashed; the seal between lid and base keeps the food fresh and sealed off from the room.

The Ibili cheese dome with wooden base and glass cover is the warmer option for cheese, patisserie or fruit: a clear glass dome over a bamboo base. It is made in Ø18 cm with a height of 10 cm (reference 715518), Ø20 cm with 9 cm (715520) and Ø26 cm with 12 cm (715526), with the size chosen from the drop-down menu on the product page.

Bread baskets for display and service

The Lacor bread baskets for baguettes are made from polypropylene with an internal stainless steel reinforcing frame: they have the look of wicker but stand up to daily use, and they are BPA-free, stackable and easy to clean. The taller back panel holds long loaves upright instead of letting them flop over. They measure 42 cm long by 25 cm deep, rising to 36.5 cm at the back, with diameters of 32 and 28.5 cm. The Lacor round bread basket shares the same materials and finishes and suits round loaves and pastries. Both are available in mahogany and natural wicker finishes.

Displays for patisserie and ice cream

Silikomart Professional makes displays aimed at frozen and bite-sized products. The Espogel Down display presents ice lollies pointing downwards along with ice cream sandwiches, while the Espogel Up display shows them pointing upwards and takes large universal wooden sticks. Both are made from polystyrene, measure 235 x 360 mm with a height of 48 mm and take up the space of a standard ice cream container, so they drop straight into the display cabinet pan with no alterations; they are designed for the Steccoflex, Steccoflex Mini, Cookieflex and Cookieflex Mini ranges. For petits fours and cake pops, the Silikomart PoP Stand display measures 222 x 112 mm with a height of 110 mm and Ø225 mm, and is the companion piece to the Easy Pop, Finger Food Party and Wonder Pops ranges.

How to choose your display cabinet

Start with the point of sale: on a short bar, a 50 cm wide cabinet or a round dome is plenty; on a patisserie counter, the 75 and 100 cm versions with an upper shelf make far better use of the height. If the product is served many times an hour, the Roll-Top lid wins on speed; if you want a shop window, the Neutra glass cabinet looks better and lets you work from behind. For bread, choose a baguette or round basket depending on the loaves you bake. And always check whether you will be working with gastronorm containers: settling on GN 1/1 from the outset saves trouble later. Round out the set-up with buffet equipment and serving trays and platters, or browse the full catalogue from Lacor, Ibili, Inoxibar and Silikomart.

Frequently asked questions about display cabinets

Do these display cabinets keep food hot or cold?

No. The cabinets and domes in this category are ambient: they protect the food and keep it in view, but they do not generate cold or heat. If you need to hold food at a controlled temperature, the refrigerated and heated display cases category brings together the chilled and hot models.

What size of display cabinet do I need for my counter?

The Lacor cabinet with upper shelf comes in base widths of 50, 75 and 100 cm. Measure the clear run of counter first and leave a few centimetres either side so you can open it. The Roll-Top cabinet takes up 53 x 32.5 cm and the Neutra glass cabinet 55.4 x 37.6 cm.

Can gastronorm containers be used inside the cabinet?

Yes. The Lacor Roll-Top cabinet is designed for GN 1/1 containers: the food sits inside the container and never touches the counter surface, which makes changing over the product and cleaning down much easier.

What are the bread baskets made from?

Polypropylene with an internal stainless steel reinforcing frame and a wicker-effect finish. They are BPA-free, stackable and simple to clean, so they stand up to daily bakery use far better than natural wicker.

Do the Espogel displays work with any ice lolly?

They are designed for Silikomart's Steccoflex, Steccoflex Mini, Cookieflex and Cookieflex Mini ranges, and the Up model also takes large universal wooden sticks. As they take up the space of a standard ice cream container (235 x 360 mm), they fit an ice cream display cabinet with no adaptation.
