Types of coffee makers, teapots and accessories
Italian or moka coffee makers
The stovetop moka pot brews coffee by steam pressure: you fill the lower chamber with water, place the ground coffee in the funnel and, as it heats, the coffee rises into the upper chamber. They come in aluminium, lighter and more classic, such as the Ibili Bahía cast aluminium coffee maker or the Ilsa Vitto Expresso aluminium coffee maker, and in 18/10 stainless steel, more hard-wearing and induction-ready, such as the Ibili Moca stainless steel coffee maker. Ibili’s Elba range adds a special base so it can also be used on induction.
Cafetière and plunger pots
Plunger pots or French presses brew coffee by steeping and pressing the grounds, and many also work for brewing tea, such as the Ibili coffee-and-tea plunger pot. To serve creamy milk, the Lacor electric milk frother-warmer froths and warms the milk for cappuccinos and lattes.
Teapots
For tea you will find cast iron teapots, which keep the heat for longer, such as the Ibili India cast iron teapot, and induction-ready glass teapots with a built-in filter, such as the Ibili glass teapot, together with infusers and the Ibili tea infuser ball for loose leaves.
Reusable capsules and spare parts
For Nespresso-system machines, the Ombawi reusable capsule is filled with ground coffee and cuts down on waste compared with single-use capsules. There are also silicone seals, filters and replacement funnels to extend the life of your coffee maker.
How to choose your coffee and tea accessories
Choose the material to suit your kitchen and your taste: aluminium is light, classic and affordable; 18/10 stainless steel is more hard-wearing, does not affect the flavour, works on induction and is usually dishwasher safe. Consider the number of cups and, if your hob is induction, check that the model is compatible. Round off your coffee corner with coffee makers and teapots, the electric grinders to grind the beans fresh and the preserving jars to keep your coffee and tea at their best.
Frequently asked questions about coffee and tea
Which Italian coffee maker works on induction?
Stainless steel ones, such as Ibili’s Moca or Essential, and aluminium ones with a special induction base, such as Ibili’s Elba range. Classic aluminium models, such as the Bahía, work on gas and ceramic hobs; for induction they need a ferromagnetic base or an adapter.
How do you use an Italian or moka coffee maker?
Fill the lower chamber with water up to the valve, place the ground coffee in the funnel without tamping it, screw the pot together and heat over a medium flame. Steam pressure pushes the coffee up into the upper chamber within a few minutes.
Which material is better for an Italian coffee maker, aluminium or stainless steel?
Aluminium is lighter and cheaper and is the classic moka material. 18/10 stainless steel is more hard-wearing, does not affect the coffee flavour, works on induction and is usually dishwasher safe.
What is the difference between a plunger pot and a teapot?
A plunger pot or French press brews coffee by steeping and pressing the grounds. Teapots are designed for brewing tea and come in cast iron, which holds the heat, or glass with a filter.
Can I use reusable capsules in a Nespresso machine?
Yes. Reusable capsules such as the Ombawi are filled with ground coffee and are compatible with Nespresso-system coffee makers, cutting waste compared with single-use capsules.
