Description
The cherry and olive pitter from Ibili (ref. 686300, weighing around 129 g) handles one of the most tedious tasks of the fruit season: removing the stone one by one without crushing the flesh. Place the cherry or olive in the recess, press down and the stone comes out through the bottom, leaving the fruit whole and ready to use. It is the go-to tool for clafoutis, tarts, jams, compotes, preserved olives or simply leaving a bowl of cherries ready for the kids.
Work over a deep container or the sink: when you press down, the cherry releases juice and the stone drops out cleanly. Centre the fruit properly in the recess before pressing; if it is off-centre, the stone may come out sideways and break the fruit. With olives, choose pieces of a similar size so the motion is always comfortable. After each use, rinse the tool straight away: cherry juice stains and is harder to remove if it dries. The manufacturer does not state whether it is dishwasher safe in its catalogue, so we recommend hand washing with warm water and mild soap and drying well before storing, which is the best way to care for any tool with moving parts.
