What the Fruti pomegranate deseeder is and how it works

No more red fingers or seeds flying around the kitchen. Cut the pomegranate in half, place it face down on the Fruti's black grid and tap the skin with a spoon: the seeds drop cleanly into the clear jug and the bitter white membrane stays up on the grid. In half a minute you have a whole pomegranate deseeded, and the jug, with a clearly legible scale in millilitres and ounces, tells you how much you have collected without dirtying a measuring cup.

The second removable accessory turns the Fruti into a manual citrus juicer in a matter of seconds. Take off the grid, fit the cone onto the jug and squeeze by hand; the juice runs through the slots in the filter, which hold back the pips and the coarse pulp. Tips from the shop

• Choose pomegranates that feel heavy for their size and have taut skin: they are the juiciest and the seeds come away more easily.
• Tap with a wooden or silicone spoon in short, sharp strokes, working over the whole skin; two or three passes will empty it.
• If a piece of membrane falls into the jug, lift it out with your fingers: it floats on top of the seeds and you spot it straight away.
• To juice citrus fruit, roll it on the worktop pressing down with your palm before cutting it: it releases more juice with less effort.
• Use the small cone for limes and lemons; with the large one, small fruit slips and you get less out of it.

The Fruti deseeds the pomegranate: it separates the seeds from the membrane and collects them in the 700 ml jug. To get juice, blend the seeds afterwards and strain them, or squeeze the pomegranate half in a citrus juicer with a large cone.
