Lacor round collapsible silicone colander, 24 cm in diameter and 4 litres, with a rigid plastic rim and handles. Open, it drains a whole pack of pasta; folded, it stores away in any drawer. It withstands boiling water and is dishwasher safe. Discontinued model: last unit, new, in our outlet.
Description
This Lacor colander solves the problem with every large colander: where to keep it. Its body is made of perforated red silicone that folds up concertina-style until it is almost flat, and it is mounted on a rigid white plastic rim with two built-in handles. Open, it is a colander 24 cm in diameter with a 4 litre capacity, the size of a family salad bowl; closed, it is about as thick as a soup plate and fits in a drawer or standing upright between the baking trays. It is a model Lacor no longer makes: this is the last unit we have left, which is why it is in the outlet section at a reduced price.

For everything that gets strained or drained in a kitchen: freshly cooked pasta and rice, soaked pulses, washed vegetables, fruit, boiled potatoes. The 4 litres take a 500 g packet of cooked pasta in one go. As the sides are perforated too, the water runs out on every side and the pasta is not left sitting in water at the bottom. The rigid handles let you give it a good shake without the silicone creasing.
You press the base upwards and the silicone gathers into folds inside the rim; to open it you pull the base downwards until the sides are taut. Folded, it takes up roughly a quarter of its open height. It is the colander favoured by people who cook in caravans, on boats and in small kitchens, and the one that goes in the drawer when there is no room in the cupboard for a 24 cm steel colander.
Silicone does not pick up smells and washes with soap and water or in the dishwasher, preferably in the top basket. After draining tomato or carrot it is best to wash it soon so the pigment does not stain the colour. It should not be rested on a hot hob or left near a flame: silicone withstands boiling water, but not direct contact with heat.
If you need more than one unit, the collapsible silicone and steel colander by Lacor is the current model that replaces it. In the kitchen colanders and strainers section you will also find mesh strainers and stainless steel chinois.
Because Lacor has discontinued it and we have a single new unit left, unused and with its label. It is sold at a discount and will not be restocked.
Yes. The silicone copes with freshly boiled water without losing its shape. What it cannot take is direct contact with the hob or a flame.
Folded, it shrinks to a disc 24 cm in diameter and a few centimetres high, roughly a quarter of its open height.
Yes, preferably in the top basket. It also washes by hand with soap and water in no time, because silicone does not hold on to food residue.
With a 4 litre capacity it drains a 500 g packet of cooked pasta, or the vegetables for four people.
Rigid, in white plastic, just like the rim. That is why the colander can be lifted full and shaken without bending.
