Description
The stainless steel paella spatula is the round, unperforated paddle used to stir the sofrito, spread the rice and serve the paella without scratching the pan. The paddle measures 11 cm across and the overall length is 55 cm, with a hook on the end for hanging it up; it is made in Valencia.
Its length makes it the spatula for cooking on a paella gas burner or over a wood fire: the handle keeps your hand well away from the flame and reaches the centre of a 50, 60 or 70 cm paella pan. For a 30 or 40 cm paella made at home on the hob it is longer than you need, as our customers tell us.

The spatula without holes is the one for stirring and serving: it picks up the rice with its stock and the sofrito with its oil, and it scrapes up the socarrat (the toasted rice) from the bottom of the pan. A skimmer with holes drains the oil and is used to lift out whatever is fried before the rice goes in (chicken, rabbit, vegetables); if you are only going to have one, the one you use throughout the whole paella is this.
We have sold it since 2017: 146 units in 118 orders, with 2020 as the best year (26 units), and the 3 published reviews give it 9.3 out of 10. What customers keep coming back to is the size: ‘it did the job properly for a paella for 40 people’, ‘does what it should, better for large paellas as the handle is very long’ and, the other way round, ‘good quality; the only drawback is that I would have liked it a bit longer’, from someone cooking in even bigger pans.
Stainless steel stands up to the heat of the burner without warping or giving off any smell, and it washes with soap and water. The paddle is thin and flat: it slides neatly under the rice when serving and leaves no marks on polished or enamelled paella pans in normal use. Do not use it in non-stick paella pans or frying pans: the steel edge scratches the coating.
The paddle is round and measures 11 cm in diameter; the overall length, from paddle to hook, is 55 cm.
For paella pans of 50 cm and up cooked on a paella gas burner or over a wood fire, where you need to reach the centre without bringing your hand close to the fire. In a 30 or 40 cm paella on the hob the handle is longer than needed.
Because it is the paddle for stirring and serving: it picks up the rice with the stock and the sofrito with the oil. To drain what is fried before the rice, you use a skimmer with holes.
Not on polished or enamelled steel paella pans, in normal use. On non-stick paella pans it does: there you need to use a wooden, nylon or silicone spatula.
Yes, the end of the handle finishes in a hook so you can hang it from the burner or a rail, and it takes up no drawer space.
