Description
The Garhe 1.5 HP electric hammer mill (reference 00855, the “chrome mill” of the catalogue) is a farm mill: 1,100 W motor, hammer blade and five screens of 1, 2, 3, 5 and 8 mm that set the size of the output. It grinds maize, barley, wheat and any cereal for animal feed at roughly 200 kg per hour, according to Garhe, and also crushes stale bread, nuts, apples and olives. It has two inlets: the top hopper for grain and a side chute for feeding in pieces.
Garhe makes it in Berriz (Biscay) from galvanised steel sheet. Accessories available to order include the slicing blade (ref. 00852) for fruit and soft products, the set of steel legs (00816) to bring it up to working height and the collecting sleeve (00835) for filling sacks.
Feed for the farm. This is its main job. The grain drops from the hopper into the chamber, where the hammer blade smashes it and throws it against the screen; it comes out as soon as it fits through the holes. With the 8 mm screen you get cracked grain for hens and rabbits; with the 1 or 2 mm screen, flour for feed mixes. At around 200 kg per hour a sack is ground in a few minutes.
Stale bread and leftovers. Pieces of dry bread, biscuits or stripped corn cobs go in through the side chute, and the mill reduces them to crumbs or flour for the animals.
Olives. Garhe shows it on video crushing olives fresh from the tree, stones included, and the result is a paste much like the one from burr mills. For that use, however, we recommend the 3 HP grain mill: it has more power and takes stone burrs for oily products. The hammer mill is the choice when grain is the main use and olives are occasional. In both cases the paste is then mixed in a Garhe electric mixer before pressing, to get the most oil out of the olives.
Fruit and nuts. With the optional slicing blade it cuts apples for cider or for drying, as shown in the third video; with the hammer blade it grinds almonds, hazelnuts or walnuts.
Place it on a sturdy table or on the optional legs, with a bucket or a sack under the outlet. Choose the screen for the size you want, close the chamber, start the motor and only then fill the hopper. The grain must be dry: moisture blocks the holes in the screen and slows the mill down. For pieces, use the side chute, feeding them in one at a time and never pushing with your hand.
Open the chamber by releasing the knobs, take out the screen and brush the chamber and the hammers. After grinding olives or fruit, wash the chamber and the screen with hot water and dry them well before closing. The motor must not get wet.
The hammer mill grinds faster and is the right one for feed and bulk grain; the fineness is set by the screen, down to a minimum of 1 mm. The burr mills, the 2 HP grain mill and the 3 HP grain mill, grind by friction and let you adjust the fineness continuously, right down to very fine flour for bread, and the 3 HP model is the one we recommend for olives. For small quantities without a motor there is the manual corn and nut grinder. The whole range is in mincers and mixers.

Around 200 kg per hour according to Garhe, with dry grain and a coarse screen. With the 1 mm screen, for fine flour, the rate drops.
Five: 1, 2, 3, 5 and 8 mm. They are changed without tools by opening the chamber. The 8 mm screen gives cracked grain; the 1 mm one, flour.
Yes, Garhe shows it on video with olives, stones included. For that use we recommend the 3 HP grain mill, with burrs; the hammer mill makes sense if grinding grain is the main job. In both cases the paste is then mixed in an electric mixer to get more oil out of it.
An ordinary 230 V earthed socket. The motor is single-phase, 1,100 W (1.5 HP).
No: the maize goes into the hopper as loose kernels. Empty cobs or stale bread can be fed in pieces through the side chute.
In a single package of 56 × 34 × 36 cm and 21 kg, with the hammer blade fitted and the five screens. The steel legs are a separate accessory.
