Original Lacor hand guard for the Safe stainless steel mandoline. It is the black dome-shaped part whose prongs hold the food and keep your fingers well away from the blade while slicing. Official spare part, identical to the one supplied with a new mandoline; sold individually in its bag.
Description
This hand guard is the safety part of Lacor's 60357 Safe stainless steel mandoline: the black dome with prongs on the inside that grips the potato, carrot or courgette and slides along the side guides of the mandoline. With it you can slice right down to the last piece without bringing your fingers near the blade. If the original has been lost, a guide has broken or you simply want a spare so that service never stops, this is Lacor's official spare part, the same one supplied with a new mandoline.

Push the food onto the prongs of the base, fit the guard into the guides of the mandoline and slide it up and down with your palm resting on the knob. When the piece is used up, remove the remainder and spike the next one. Lacor recommends always using it: the Safe mandoline slices from 0 to 9 mm, cuts julienne of 3 and 9 mm and waffle cuts, and the blades are sharp enough to do it in a single pass, so a moment's carelessness with your fingers is costly.
In a professional kitchen the mandoline is used every day and the hand guard is the part that travels most: it gets left at the pot wash, falls into the bin with the peelings or ends up in another drawer. Without it, the temptation to cut the last few centimetres of vegetable by hand is strong, and that is where most cuts happen. A second guard costs little and saves you putting the mandoline aside until the original turns up. The same goes at home when the mandoline is lent out or the knob has cracked in the dishwasher.
The Lacor Safe mandoline is the 50 cm long stainless steel model with rotating blades, folding legs and a black carry case; the reference 60357 appears on the box and on the case label. Lacor's Luxe and Multi mandolines use hand guards of a different shape with different guide sizes, so this one does not fit them. If in doubt, compare the base of the guard with the side guides of your mandoline: the Safe has two parallel rails into which the tabs on the base slot.
Lacor's data sheet for this part does not say whether it is dishwasher safe, so the safest option is to wash it by hand in hot soapy water, taking care with the prongs, and to let it dry before putting it away. After each use, remove any bits of vegetable left between the prongs with a small brush. Keep it inside the mandoline's case so it does not get lost.
This spare part belongs to the Lacor Safe stainless steel mandoline, with 4 types of cut and a carry case. In the mandolines and slicers section you will find other Lacor models and their spare parts.
