Description
The La Estrella enamelled casserole is the traditional cooking pot of a lifetime: a steel body coated with a double layer of enamel, from the Teja range, made in Logroño by a brand regarded as one of the best on the Spanish market. It is suitable for all types of hob, including induction, for the oven and for the dishwasher, and is available in thirteen sizes, from 1 to 21 litres. It is the kind of casserole that gets handed down: the enamel is unaffected by chemical products, withstands high temperatures and makes cleaning a matter of moments. 3-year guarantee.
The double layer of enamel over the steel creates a non-porous surface that does not retain odours or flavours and does not react with acidic foods such as tomato or escabeche. That is why enamelled pots are still the favourite for traditional stews: the flavour stays clean and the colour of the enamel lets you check how the sofrito is coming along at a glance.
It is compatible with all types of hob: gas, electric, ceramic and induction; it is also suitable for the oven and the dishwasher.
This is the casserole for hearty spoon dishes: cocidos, lentils, beans, potajes, brothy rice dishes, soups and sauces that call for a long, gentle simmer over low heat. The large sizes are the ones chosen for cooking in quantity — home preserves, stocks to freeze, family Sunday meals — and in catering for the set menu of the day. It is also the classic ally of seasonal sweet preparations: jams, quince paste or rice pudding, where the enamelled surface makes it easy to stir without the sugar sticking and lets you keep an eye on the colour of the caramel at all times.
The enamel is hard and very durable, but it appreciates a few simple precautions: avoid heavy knocks against hard surfaces and sudden changes of temperature (do not move the casserole from the heat straight into cold water), and stir with a wooden or silicone spoon. If something sticks to the base, leave it to soak in hot soapy water rather than scraping with metal scourers. With these habits, an enamelled casserole will last for decades.
Please note, before buying this enamelled product, that due to the manufacturing process it shows small visible imperfections such as a build-up of enamel in certain areas, spots on the body and on the lid, or discolourations. These imperfections, which stem from the enamelling and firing process, are present in one way or another on the vast majority of units and the manufacturer, La Estrella, considers them normal and unavoidable in manufacturing, so they will not be grounds for return. Nevertheless, these imperfections are purely cosmetic and do not affect the usability, durability or safety of the item in any way, being perfectly functional for use.
